Often protein food choices include the ethics of intensive farming, animal rights, and the systematic use of antibiotics, steroids, and other additives to increase flesh yield of food animals weighed against the nutritional value these products provide.
Scientifically there is sound footing for the intake of animal or marine proteins. But in most of the developed world the disadvantages of meat and fish free diets are pretty well a wash considering the ease developed societies make complete nutrition available.
